Dive Into locality

Travelling to a new place is about exploring new destinations and immersing yourself in the locals. Bali is an ideal destination offering a unique and authentic local culture that is still being done today. At Padma Resort Ubud, our guests have the opportunity to experience and learn about the locality during their stay:

Canang sari making

Have you seen a small offering placed on the ground or in front of Balinese houses, businesses, and temples? This offering is known as canang sari and is a form of daily prayer and praise honouring the spirits. Canang sari is a woven basket made from coconut leaves, filled with flowers and rice. Together with our team, you discover the meaning behind each offering during your stay at Padma Resort Ubud.

Balinese blessing

The Balinese Blessing ceremony is a significant aspect of Balinese culture and religion, reflecting Balinese people’s spiritual beliefs and values to seek harmony and balance led by Pemangku/ Priest. As a Non-Balinese or non-Hindu, everyone is welcome to experience blessing rituals but still pray to their beliefs. Our resort offers this experience to our guests, which includes traditional Balinese attire and prayer equipment, including canang sari, incense, and other prayer equipment.

Village visit

Take a trip to the nearby neighbourhood of Puhu village, just a short walk from the resort, and learn about the vibrant culture of Bali guided by the recreation team. Witness the day-to-day Balinese life, discover their authentic culture, and the traditional Balinese architecture, including the beautiful temples and Balinese gates as part of their house architecture.

Jamu making

Jamu is a traditional herbal drink, also recognised as one of Indonesia’s cultural heritage. This herbal drink is made of natural products, with various selections and benefits for each variety to our body, such as antioxidants, natural detox, boosted digestion, and many more. Here in Padma Resort Ubud, guests can learn how to craft a jamu with ingredients freshly handpicked from our Agroforestry, guided by our team.

Balinese Hat Making

Balinese Hat, also known as Capil, is a traditional head covering worn by Balinese while working in the field or herding, and it is an essential part of their traditional day-to-day attribute. This iconic piece of Balinese attribute is made by weaving coconut tree leaves, using a technique passed down through generations. During your stay at our resort, you can make your Capil and experience the art of weaving guided by our team and take it home as a gift or keep it as a lasting memory of your locality experience.

Balinese Cuisine

After experiencing the array of local activities and learning about the locals’ life, complete the holiday by trying the local dishes. Balinese Cuisine offers an authentic experience with its spicy and aromatic flavours. The Cuisine is prepared using natural ingredients such as herbs and spices, including shallots, garlic, ginger, chilli, peppers, turmeric, and lemongrass, and traditional cooking techniques, such as grilling, roasting, and streaming. The dishes are often served with sambal, a spicy condiment. At Padma Resort Ubud, staying guests or non-staying guests are welcome to try Balinese-themed dinner every Saturday at The Puhu Restaurant, 6.30PM – 9.30PM, featuring Babi guling, Satay tajen, tum ikan, and soup komoh.
